Welcome! You've Got TeeVee!

All Hail the LeaderHello, I'm Steve Case. And welcome to the newest addition to the AOL Online Community: My TeeVee!

At America Online -- America's largest and fastest growing provider of Internet resources -- we're always looking for ways to make the online experience easier and more rewarding for our members. We want to be your one-click stop for information on finances, news, sports and, above all, entertainment.

AOL can't pipe programming directly into your computer -- not until those regulators approve our merger with Time-Warner! -- but we can do the next best thing. We can bring you the latest and greatest information about the TV that's important to you. We can give you unprecedented access to your favorite TV stars. And, of course, we can offer you unprecedented values on must-have merchandise at our online TV store.

How can we do all this? Easily, thanks to AOL's latest purchase -- a small but growing Web site called www.teevee.org.

TeeVee -- the extra e's are for extra funny! -- has earned rave reviews since its September 1996 launch. Entertainment Weakly gave this fresh, irreverent Web site an A in its widely read multimedia section, joining the legions of online reviewers who have discovered TeeVee's unique brand of wacky and insightful humor. Celebrities such as MTV's Dan Cortese and "Boys on the Side's" Dennis Boutsikaris have heaped lavish praise upon the creative minds that bring you TeeVee. The site has even rated a passing mention in Rebecca Eisenberg's Internet column. And that's high praise, indeed.

That kind of universal acclaim caught our attention here at AOL. Just as we serve our online community with Buddy Lists, Chat Rooms and other fabulous features, TeeVee has served its readership a steady stream of kooky zingers and heartfelt belly laughs. It seemed like such a natural fit. So last week, AOL completed a deal to purchase TeeVee for $500,000 worth of America Online stock. We couldn't be more pleased with our latest find. And we think you -- our valuable online members -- will be pleased as well.

Of course, there will be some changes around here. First, to bring our new Internet property in line with other AOL features such as My Places, My Calendar, and My Favorite Places, we're renaming this site My TeeVee. AOL members can reach our special My TeeVee channel using KEYWORD: MY TEEVEE.

We also felt it necessary to improve the content of My TeeVee. Gone are many of the old writers, who, frankly, didn't have quite the polish or seasoning we demand of our content providers. In their place, we've installed a new My TeeVee team, who promise to bring the same level of zaniness and unpredictability with a new sense of professionalism.

To that end, you can expect the all new My TeeVee to be a family-friendly place. We'll use the same rigorous guidelines that govern the entire AOL family of online features to guarantee that you and your children can surf at ease and without hassle.

My TeeVee is also happy to introduce new features to this Web site including:

  • My Review: You've heard what we think of shows! Now tell us what you think, with these customizable, easy-to-create My TeeVee articles!

  • My Chat: Did you hear the latest? TV stars like Alyssa Milano (Charmed), Steve Harvey (The Steve Harvey Show) and Rue McClanahan (Safe Harbor) are stopping by My TeeVee to tell you what's on their mind!

  • My Insider: All the latest dish on all your favorite shows!

  • My TeeVee Store: Have you ever wanted to find a place that sold cool AOL merchandise? Well, now you have!

And that's just for starters. In the coming months, AOL will add even more features, making My TeeVee your TeeVee. Check our our list of current and upcoming My TeeVee partners!

Unfortunately, on May 1, My TeeVee will become a pay service, available only to AOL members and My TeeVee subscribers. But for the next 30 days, feel free to sample all of My TeeVee's great new features at no cost. We have a feeling that once you try it, we'll be TeeVee-seeing you again and again!

Sincerely,

Steve Case
