VQTV Announces Hall of Fame Inductees

Every year, we hear at the Viewers for Quality TeeVee are honored to recognize those in the television industry that have enriched our lives by dedicating themselves to Quality TeeVee. It's no easy task, sorting through the hundreds of nominees eligible for induction each year, but we feel a sacred duty to you, the average viewer, to tell you what's right and wrong about the world of television.

Among the nominees this year, only three reached the level of serious finalists: Tony Danza, Bronson Pinchot and The Guy From That Sitcom That Looks Like Gavin McLeod. All three have very impressive resumes and all three are a true credit to the industry. Alas, after hours of torturous back-and-forth, the Induction Committee decided that The Guy From That Sitcom That Looks Like Gavin McLeod was just not as strong a candidate as Danza and Pinchot.

This leaves only two in the Class of 2001, but what a two they are! Tony Danza and Bronson Pinchot made you laugh and they made you cry. But most of all they made you think.

Congratulations Tony and Bronson and welcome to the loftiest perch in television, the Viewers for Quality TeeVee Hall of Fame! Remember honorees, this year's induction ceremony will be held at the lovely Wayne St. Ramada Inn in scenic Barstow on May 11th at 6:30. Please arrive early, since it's a long ceremony and the Shriners get the room at 8:00.

Ode to 2001 Hall of Fame Inductees

by Ed McLinn, President, VQTV

I've always admired Tony Danza and Bronson Pinchot and how they're always doing the right thing and know the right things to say at the right time. I wish I could talk like they do and help people also like they help get me through the nights when all there is is my cat Sweetums and Hungry Man Chicken Fried Steak TV dinner. I'm really, really glad that we're going to put them in our Hall of Fame. This poem is my inner voice appreciating these people and how smart and wonderful they all are. I'm thinking of turning into a song once I learn a couple more chords on my guitar.

He's there every time time I turn on my tube,
Standing in my living room by the beanbag shaped like a cube,
He was wonderful on "Taxi" as the guy who was a driver,
Then on "Who's The Boss" he was Tony, tough as a screwdriver.

Tony Danza is his name,
And don't you forget it;
Smiling on TV,
Starring in hit after hit.

Katherine Helmond played Mona real well,
But Judith Light was a bitch from hell,
That Allyssa Milano's grown into a tramp
But Tony was so funny he made me cramp.

I'd like to marry Tony,
Yes, yes I would.
Tony, would you say "I do,"
If, if, if you could?

Eight long years on "Who's The Boss,"
When they cancelled "Taxi," I felt a loss,
At "Hudson Street" I would guffaw,
And now you make me think on "Family Law."

Tony Danza is really smart,
As an actor he can play any part,
He's so happy he must have not a foe,
He's almost as talented as Bronson Pinchot.

Bronson is my favorite,
I'm hoping he'll be the one I marry,
"Meego" was both cute and funny,
Why'd they cancel "The Trouble With Larry?"

He was so happy in "Beverly Hills Cop,"
His work in "Sara" was cream of the crop,
He even played scary, stoking my fears,
When he was evil in "The Langoliers."

Bronson, Bronson, Bronson
I hope you don't have a deathwish,
I didn't name my cat after you,
But I did my other pet, Pinchot the fish.

In closing I'd just like to say,
That Bronson Pinchot is A-OK,
He is so sweet, I love to sing his name
He deserves his spot in the VQT Hall of Fame.
