A Welcome from our President

Hello, Internet and Television Viewer!

My name is Ed McLinn, and I'm the president of the Viewers for Quality TeeVee (VQTV), now residing here at TeeVee.org. Who is VQTV? We are your neighbors, your friends, your dentists. We are dog owners, cat owners, bird owners, rabbit owners, and even people who own no pets. Assuming you came to this site out of a legitimate concern for the quality of television in America, we are you. Otherwise, we aren't you -- but we should be. Keep reading, and by the end of your visit to this site, we think you'll be us.

You are a part of VQTV because of our mission to promote perhaps the most underappreciated and unloved form of art and/or media on television -- television itself. Most of the people of America spend hours of each day watching television, and yet most of America fails to appreciate the quality of television programming that exists here. That's what VQTV -- and you, old friend! -- are all about.

Here at VQTV, we're committed to spotlighting the best shows on television, so that more people watch them. We're also committed to encouraging the American public to watch more quality television -- because right now, they're simply not watching enough. And neither are we. And by we, of course, I mean you. Follow me?

Founded in 1991, VQTV is dedicated to the belief that we all have the power to determine the role that television plays in our own lives. Rather than waiting for others to make "better" TV, we can wake up and realize the amazing bounty that television brings to our families, our friends, and ourselves.

VQTV has helped millions of people do just that. Our two primary programs, TV Turn-On Week and More TV, Less Reading, help people, especially children, to turn on life through TV. TV-Turn-On Week is a grassroots project that works. TV-Turn-On Week succeeds because our network of thousands works hard to organize local schools, clubs, religious congregations, and communities.

With a full-time staff of five, VQTV garners the lion's share of its funding from memberships, individual donations, and from sales of its products. Though small, we make a real difference in millions of lives. Turn on TV... and Turn on Life! You'll be glad you did.

Well, I've gotta go! Friends is on!

Live long and prosper, TV viewers!

Ed McLinn
President, VQTV

Meet the men and women who believe any TV is better than no TV but quality TV is the best TV of all.

Ed McLinn (Chairman, President and Founder): Ten years ago, Ed was just a hard-working pool supplies salesman serving the Inland Empire region from his office in Fontana. But when the 1991 recession cost Ed his job, he found himself watching more televison. And it made him a changed man. Ed became a tireless dynamo, working to turn others on to the healing power of television. Ed has built VQTV into the nationally recognized advocacy group it is today. When not watching television, he enjoys repairing TVs and donating them to local convalescent facilities.

Rance Mulliniks (Vice Chairman): Rance comes to VQTV after a successful career in all aspects of the television industry. A former athlete, Rance wrote a popular column for Entertainment Weakly, later taking a job with the television division of Sony. His most recent job before joining VQTV this year was heading a television Web site project for America Online. He hopes that his stint at VQTV will be his "best job yet."

Felton MacMillian (Chief Operating Officer): Felton is an industry pioneer who brings an innovative tactical vision to the crusade for quality television. After masterminding a successful campaign to move the TV series "Poltergeist: The Legacy" from Showtime to the more widely available SciFi Channel, he then turned toward energizing VQTV's efforts to bring quality to the masses.

Melissa Nardoni (Treasurer): A former bank teller who broke into the television industry as a production assistant on Glamorous Ladies of Wrestling, Melissa has a longstanding dedication to quality. She oversees our e-commerce operation and all fund-raising efforts. She's also celebrating her recent exoneration of any wrong-doing connected to her stint last year as a fund-raiser for presidential candidate John McCain.

Warren Littlefield (Director): Warren is a man whose reputation proceeds him. The programming genius behind "Suddenly Susan," "The Single Guy," "The Naked Truth," and "Conrad Bloom," Warren also invented the concept of Must See-TV (patent pending). Since leaving his job at NBC at greener pastures, Warren has had a lot of time on his hands to watch television.

Johnny "Philo" McLinn (Director): Johnny legally changed his name to Philo last month to pay tribute to Philo Farnsworth, the inventor of television.

Tom Shales (Director): Tom writes a TV column for a newspaper in the Washington D.C. area. He joined VQTV out of frustration when his editors kept changing his glowing reviews of TV shows into bitter, scathing diatribes. "I love TV and all that goodness it has to offer," says Tom, who also enjoys motor sports
