A Message from Susan Lyne, ABC Entertainment President
As excited as we are to embark on our reality TV adventure and as thrilled as our viewers must be at the thought of 22 hours of prime-time reality programming we realize that there are some people who may be confused and upset by our sudden change of direction -- the regular viewers of our now-cancelled shows. To those 439 people, we offer our our sympathies but also the glimmer of hope that just because you won't see these shows on ABC anymore doesn't mean they'll completely vanish from the airwaves.
Unless you watch Miracles. Because we cancelled that.
But I'm happy to report that we've found other homes for our scripted ABC programs on stations throughout the Disney family of networks. By moving these shows elsewhere on the dial, devoted viewers will have the chance to catch up with their old favorites as we burn off the last of the profitable episodes we already have in the can and try to recoup some of our staggering losses.
Here's where to find your old ABC friends:
* Alias, 8 p.m. ET, Monday, ESPN2: The saga of super-sexy spy Sydney Bristow continues on a channel better suited to attracting the lonely single male demographic that may be flipping by in hopes of catching the Fitness America Pageant. To make the show a better fit with its new channel, Sydney (Jennifer Garner) will stop what she's doing every 15 minutes and read baseball scores.
* Dragnet, 8 p.m., Weeknights, Disney Channel: Dick Wolf's gritty remake of this hard-hitting crime series follows Lizzie McGuire.
* George Lopez, My Wife & Kids, 8 Simple Rules..., Midnight, ABC Family: Our three interchangeable sitcoms will be combined into one super-sized half-hour of laughs for the entire family, as George, Damon and John laugh with and at their kooky families. The new 8 Simple Rules About George Lopez's Wife and Kids follows the popular 700 Club, now in its third decade of entertaining the pious.
* The Practice and NYPD Blue were actually cancelled three years ago. We thought viewers might have noticed by now. Audio broadcasts of some of the two shows classic episodes can be heard on Radio Disney.
As for our other programs, I'm happy to report that The View is alive and well and still on ABC. Only in keeping with our new reality-show focus, camera crews will follow around the ladies of The View as they go about their daily routines. Have you ever wondered what it'd be like to watch Lisa Ling cook soup or Star Jones darn her socks? Well, wonder no more.
The influential news program Nightline will continue to follow your late local news. In addition to offering a close examination of the issues of the day, Ted Koppel will conclude each telecast with a 10-minute recap of the major happenings on each of the day's reality programs.
Jimmy Kimmel Live will continue to follow Nightline, because terminating that contract we signed is proving to be more troublesome than we thought. Check back in a few weeks!
